Juvo is expanding its data team to meet the ever-increasing demands of the business as we continue to grow our service worldwide.  We are looking for a talented, motivated Data Engineer to work on our small, fast-moving team.

Juvo relies heavily on data to make lending decisions, drive product/business strategy, and optimize every aspect of our service.  As an engineer, your work will reach millions of people worldwide, and help bring modern financial services to the developing world.

Sample projects

Here is a small sample of the things you could be working on at Juvo:

  • Build web services to perform risk / fraud analysis, credit scoring, anonymization and other important internal functions
  • Write libraries and tools to handle the storage, transformation and processing of our event data
  • Design an experiment management framework to support A/B testing of notification campaigns and user experiences
  • Create an event processing system to respond in real-time to user events

Technologies we use

We are deployed to different carriers around the world, with a mix of cloud and on-premise systems.  We believe in the right tool for the job regardless of language, and are quick to adopt new technologies where they make sense, or build it ourselves when needed.  Here is a snapshot of our current technology stack:

  • Backend Services: Java, Ratpack
  • Data Processing: Python, Airflow, Spark
  • Storage: Postgres, Redis, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3


  • Experience with Python or other general purpose languages
  • Experience with Java, Scala or similar
  • Experience with data processing frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, etc)
  • Strong understanding of SQL and databases; Redshift experience a plus
  • Experience with message queueing systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc)
  • Strong grasp of unix tools for data processing

Bonus skills

  • Experience with config management frameworks (Chef, Ansible, Terraform, etc)
  • Previous experience running machine learning workloads in production
  • Previous experience building applications on AWS
